Martha Mwihaki, a devoted mother and committed student at Koige Secondary School in Kuresoi North, met a tragic end on Monday, April 17.
While walking home near Mau Summit on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway around 6:30 pm, she was hit by a Tahmeed bus that had lost control and veered off the road.
Martha, the eldest child of her parents, left behind a 16-month-old daughter.
The accident also claimed the lives of three passengers. Martha’s mother, Mary Njeri, who runs a beauty salon in Jogoo, received the heartbreaking news from a neighbor and described Martha as a hardworking, cheerful, and bright girl with a passion for engineering.
Despite giving birth during her second year of high school, Martha was determined to pursue her dreams and return to school.
Her father, Daniel Korir, who had worked hard to provide her with a good education, was devastated by the loss of his daughter, whom he described as a good girl with a bright future. The family had started making burial arrangements by Thursday.
