Hussein Mohammed, Kenya Kwanza’s campaign secretary, blamed moderators for Rigathi’s focus on President Uhuru Kenyatta during the deputy presidential debates on July 19 and 22.
Hussein stated during a briefing on Thursday, July 21, that the debate moderators misframed their questions, causing Gachagua to become more personal rather than focused on the main agenda.
He revealed that Rigathi Gachagua attempted to focus on major issues affecting the country but was forced to repeatedly mention Uhuru Kenyatta due to the questions posed.
He accused the journalists of doing his client a disservice by failing to question him about important issues such as health care.
“All parties had already agreed on the format of the debate. We have no objections if Kenyans believe they should devote more time. The sooner they move it to two hours, the better.”
“However, if the moderators are preoccupied with non-issues, it is pointless. The 1 hour 30 minutes would have been sufficient if the moderators had not been preoccupied with irrelevant personalities and relationships “He stated this.
They also claimed that Raila’s running mate, Martha Karua, was given 39 minutes as opposed to Gachagua’s 32 minutes.
