After confidently admitting to watching pornography in parliament chambers, a UK Mp from Britain’s ruling Conservative party announced his resignation.
Neil Parish is a lawmaker from southwest England who serves in the House of Commons. When asked to explain the incident, he described it as an indefensible instance of “total madness.”
“I think I must have taken complete leave of my senses and sensibilities and, in a sense of decency, everything,” he said in an interview with the BBC when announcing his resignation.
“(It was) a moment of madness that was also completely wrong… I’m not going to argue for it.” He continued.
The 65-year-old has been a member of Parliament for 12 years. His public position was terminated after two MPs reported seeing an MP watching porn in the Commons, Britain’s parliament.
Parish’s decision to resign necessitates a by-election in the Devon constituencies of Tiverton and Honiton, which he won with more than 24,000 votes in 2019.
