Mr Wetang’ula, the National Assembly Speaker, is faced with another critical decision as the Azimio coalition seeks to remove Ms Chege from her leadership position.
This comes after the coalition’s parliamentary group meeting held last week in Maanzoni decided to replace her, as stated in a letter by Mr Wandayi, the minority leader.
Mr Wetang’ula, who delayed effecting the changes due to letters from Nakuru West MP Samuel Arama and Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni, will make his decision soon.
In this context, University of Nairobi’s Samuel Mbutu explains that Mr Wetang’ula is walking a tightrope because he has to please his coalition and, at the same time, remain an impartial Speaker.
Jubilee MPs, Aden Keynan, Amos Mwago, and Rachael Nyamai, defend Ms Chege and urge the Speaker to dismiss the letter, citing Jubilee’s delivery to Azimio during last year’s General Election.
