Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party suffered a major setback after Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader and Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua joined Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
After falling out with Raila Odinga’s coalition, he was later joined by Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi. They cited a variety of reasons for their departure, including alleged zoning in some areas of the country.
Speaking on Spice FM’s The Situation Room, Prof Makau Mutua, spokesperson for Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign, claimed that Alfred Mutua defrauded DP Ruto after he made the move.
Mutua did not travel with the Maendeleo Chap Chap, as he claimed, according to the chairman of the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC).
According to the party rules, the party could not disassociate itself and join Kenya Kwanza because it was still under Azimio’s control.
