During the Labour Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday, Uhuru, without naming anyone, chastised his deputy for blaming him for the rising cost of living despite the fact that he is not the cause.
Deputy President William Ruto has retaliated against his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta, who accused him of doing nothing to address rising living costs.
During the Labour Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday, Uhuru, without naming anyone, chastised his deputy for blaming him for the rising cost of living despite the fact that he is not the cause.
In his response, Ruto shifted the focus back to Uhuru, claiming that it was he who removed his responsibilities and delegated them to others.
“I feel your pain. Those you assigned my responsibilities and ‘project’ mzee have let you own miserably,” Ruto said.
“They bangled our BIG4, killed our party and wasted your 2nd term. Boss, am available. Just a phone call away. Sadly the last cabinet was two years ago.”
The response came shortly after Uhuru claimed that the DP and his allies were misleading the nation about the true state of the economy.
Uhuru defended himself, saying he had done a lot to salvage the situation and that his deputy had fled from his mandate rather than providing solutions.
“Kenyans did not cause the Covid 19 pandemic, which resulted in the loss of lives and jobs. But, even as we work to restore order and revive the economy, others have launched unexpected wars.”
Uhuru went on to say:
“Instead of coming to assist me and offer your advice, you are busy in the market abusing people while claiming to be a higher-ranking leader. You should have left a long time ago so that I could hire someone to assist me at work.”
The president believes that ODM leader Raila Odinga is the best candidate to succeed him, but Kenyans will decide on August 9 during the election.
Allies of Ruto have also criticized the president, with some claiming that he regrets excluding the DP and his team from the government.
Kipchumba Murkomen, an Elgeyo Marakwet senator, said the president issued Executive Order No.1 in 2019 stripping the DP of all responsibilities, leaving him exposed, clueless, and rudderless.
