Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula has slammed President Uhuru Kenyatta for interfering with the Kenyatta University management.
The Bungoma Senator says President Kenyatta had no power to force KU Vice Chancellor Prof. Paul Wainaina, who has since resigned to hand over the purported institution’s land to World Health Organization for an emergency hub set-up.
Professor Wainaina quit his position on Tuesday after refusing to heed to President Kenyatta’s call to give out land adjacent to Kenyatta University for the particular WHO project.
Speaking in Kiambu while popularizing the Kenya Kwanza’s agenda, Wetangula also said the William Ruto’s government will reinstate Professor Wainaina come August.
“Kenyatta University is established under an Act of Parliament, with a Senate, with a council and with leadership. And you have no business both in law, under the Constitution, and in fact to interfere with the management of Kenyatta University,” Wetangula said.
“I want to assure the management of KU that after the 9th of August Professor mwenye amefukuzwa na Uhuru tutakurudisha kazini.”
He further advised the head of state to stop confusing public institutions for family assets.
“Mr President, I saw you looking extremely agitated and unhappy about the leadership of Kenyatta University. I want to advise you the fact that KU bears your family name does not make KU your family affair,” he said.
“You cannot, and you are very well advised, that you have no history of academia, managing institutions of learning and therefore you have no right whatsoever howsoever to start interfering with universities. They are now under terrible crisis because of your mismanagement of the country.”
Kenya Kwanza traversed areas of Kiambu County selling Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential bid.
