THARAKA NITHI SPORTS IN CRISIS, A CALL FOR ACCOUNTABILITY ENDS WITH THREATS FOR LEGAL ACTION

The sports sector in Tharaka Nithi is facing unprecedented challenges, with many questioning the management and allocation of resources.

As calls for transparency and accountability grow louder, the CEC Member for Youths and Sports, Moreen Nyambura, has responded with threats of legal action against critics.

Growing concerns over potential misuse of funds & resources for youths & sports development continues to escalate in Tharaka Nithi county for the second week after several youth programs reported dead.

Serious concerns leaning on major soccer teams like Panga FC, Awakening Lions, and Black Foxes struggling to stay afloat while Livewire FC officially suspending all Division II league operations due to lack of support from relevant authorities, especially from the county government.

More questions concerning progression & management of county league also continue to erupt with most teams being unable to bear the costs of the league.

Observers within the county government and the local sporting ecosystem point to what they describe as a general sense of inaccessibility, disengagement, and lack of operational clarity within the department.

This raises questions whether this docket, under its current stewardship is adequately equipped to deliver on its mandate.

The current incident is now being seen as symptomatic of a deeper failure to align leadership appointments with merit, technical competence and an appreciation for the developmental importance of sports in county-level governance.

This deplorable state has sparked outrage among youths across the County, taking it to the social media demanding transparency and accountabillity from CEC Youths & Sports, Moreen Nyambura.

But instead of transparency and engagement, CEC Youths & Sports Moreen Nyambura has resorted to threatening lawsuits if the youths don’t apologize within 7 days.

This desperate move has left many wondering if the CEC is trying to silence critics or genuinely seeking accountability.
