Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has predicted that the ‘under siege’ Nairobi City Governor Johnson Sakaja risks impeachment. This is following his tiff with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Weighing in on the existing friction between Governor Sakaja and the DP over the Nairobi City decongestion stalemate, the legislature has advised the Nairobi County boss not to go against the directives of the second in command, as he contributed in his election to office in the August 2022 polls.
Speaking to a local television station on Tuesday, Orwoba further stated that Sakaja will need the help of the entire Kenya Kwanza team should the tides of the Nairobi County Assembly Members start going against him in office.
“This is my message to Governor Sakaja;- he must remember that he was on the receiving end of Azimio. It is Gachagua, our Deputy President, His Excellency, who actually fought left, right and center to ensure he clinches the governorship…”, Orwoba told tv47.
“He (Sakaja) has to remember that he is elected under UDA and that it is UDA that fought left, right and center and ensured that he clinched that seat. So, however way (SIC) he looks at it, unless he wants to come out clean and tell us he used UDA to get into office and after that, he really does not care, he must cede ground,” added the senator.
She added that the Nairobi MCAs are still unpredictable and can file Sakaja’s impeachment motion if at a point he fails to work with them.
“If that impeachment passes the County Assembly ask yourself if you will have the numbers at Senate. Will you not need the likes of Rigathi Gachagua to round up the Mount Kenya troops?”
“Will you not need the support of Kenya Kwanza Alliance? Remember, because that impeachment will come he should remember that he was a politician before he got elected. When an impeachment motion comes, I want Sakaja to ask himself whether or not he needs Kenya Kwanza,” she concluded.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has openly told business operators in Nairobi to ignore Governor Johnson Sakaja and his plans to rearrange the city, a move that seeks to banish public service vehicles from operating within the city center as well as banning night clubs in residential zones.
Meanwhile , Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has told off the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, asking him to allow Governor Sakaja run his devolved unit in accordance with the 2010 constitution of Kenya.
