Political tensions were especially high after Deputy President William Ruto announced his preferred running mate today. He has named Rigathi Gachagua as his preferred running mate. Mathira’s current member of parliament is Rigathi Gachagua.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was also expected to announce his preferred running mate, but opted to do so tomorrow. The IEBC has given presidential candidates until tomorrow to submit the name of their preferred running mate.
Following the appointment of Rigathi Gachagua as Mathira member of parliament by Deputy President William Ruto, he is expected to be hosted by Francis Gachuri at Citizen Tv today. Dennis Itumbi, a UDA member, has made this information public. He is expected to answer questions from Kenyans about what steps they will take to improve the country’s economy. It will be a one-on-one interview.
