Jalang’o Midiwo, the ODM party’s nominee for the Gem parliamentary seat, has emphasized the importance of ODM leader Raila Odinga becoming Kenya’s next President.
Raila has since thrown his hat into the ring for the fifth time, with Midiwo emphasizing the importance of fellow leaders joining him and assisting him.
He made the remarks on Friday, when he came out to celebrate his nomination to run for the Gem seat after ODM gave him a direct seat.
He emphasized the importance of his opponents, led by incumbent MP Elisha Odhiambo, whose nomination win was overturned by ODM, accepting the situation and banding together if Raila is to win.
If the former Premier is to win, he will need to unite his supporters.
“I am now calling on my worthy opponents to set aside our differences and work together to ensure the victory of our party leader Raila Odinga,” he said, according to the Daily Nation.
Jalang’o is Raila’s cousin and the brother of former area MP Jakoyo Midiwo.
Regarding Gem, he praised ODM for overturning Odhiambo’s victory following his successful appeal, claiming that the nomination results did not reflect the wishes of the people.
“We were able to demonstrate to the party that the April 13 party primary was marred by irregularities, such as voter bribery and intimidation against my supporters,” he added.
The politician went around the constituency meeting his supporters, with his motorcade passing through Wagai, Akala, Ramula, Kambare, and Yala shopping centers.
