Today, anniversary and ODM delegates assemble at various venues in Nairobi to ratify major decisions, including Raila Odinga’s coronation as the joint presidential candidate of the multi-party Azimio La Umoja coalition united.
Jubilee’s NDC is held at KICC, whereas ODM’s is held at Kasarani Stadium.
President Uhuru Kenyatta will use the opportunity to officially endorse Odinga as his preferred successor and explain why he is not backing his deputy, William Ruto, who has been fighting for the seat for three years.
Both NDCs are anticipated to review and formulate their respective party policies, as well as revise and ratify suggested charter revisions.
Delegates from the Jubilee Party will also vote on the party’s new seal, symbol, and flag, as well as other issues that may emerge.
The ruling party’s convention, which President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to attend, is also slated to adopt “Mbele Pamoja” as its new slogan.
The conventions take place just a day after leaders of the One Kenya Alliance announced an agreement to collaborate with the Jubilee Party and Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement Party ahead of the August polls.
OKA leaders also decided to form a grand coalition called Azimio – One Kenya Alliance, according to a joint announcement delivered by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
The ruling party has previously inked cooperation agreements with like-minded parties such as PNU, PAA, UPA, UPIA, and KUP.ODM in order to create the next government’s political coalition party.
The Azimio la Umoja alliance is set to be formally founded on Saturday at Kasarani’s Moi International Sports Complex.
