Alfred Mutua, the Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, has criticized Kalonzo Musyoka, the Wiper Chief, for calling the Kamba people cowards for not participating in recently suspended opposition-led anti-government protests.
Mutua considers Musyoka’s remarks as inciting violence and damaging his peace diplomacy credentials.
Mutua argues that the reluctance of opposition supporters in the lower eastern region to participate in protests is not due to cowardice but their commitment to peace.
He adds that violence and destruction of property do not make one a hero. Kalonzo had urged the Kamba community to stop being cowardly during a recent burial in Machakos, and suggested that their nonparticipation in protests was due to their inability to mobilize defiance against the government.
