Multinational companies in Nandi have agreed to surrender 1,000 acres of land to the county government for the construction of an industrial park.
As part of the deal, these multinationals will be permitted to use tea-harvesting machines, which has resulted in around 60,000 workers losing their jobs.
The industrial park, which is set to cost Sh500 million, will generate around 50,000 jobs, and those who were previously made redundant will be offered employment once the park is up and running.
Companies such as Eastern Produce Company of Kenya, Nandi Tea, and George Williamson are among those to have surrendered land for the park.
The deal is considered a win-win situation for both parties, resolving a longstanding dispute over land leases and the mechanisation of tea harvesting.
