Kimani Ichungw’ah Explains the Fuel Crisis and Who Is to Blame

During an interview on Citizen TV, Kimani Ichungw’ah responded to Waihiga Mwaura’s question about Kenya’s fuel crisis, saying that the money accumulated from the petroleum development find was misappropriated by government cartels.

He went on to blame Kenya’s government, particularly the national Treasury, for the problems that Kenyans are experiencing.

“Kimani Ichung’wah: This country has a consumer protection mechanism. The money from the petroleum development fund that had accumulated had been misappropriated. Kenya’s government, particularly the National Treasury, is to blame.”

A fan responded, saying, “I despise the hypocrisy of these UDA members. Just the other day, @KIMANIICHUNGWAH was seated here and told us that we only have two options when it comes to VAT on petroleum: accept the 8% or pay the 16%. That is one major change that has made our lives extremely difficult.”

Another fan responded by saying, “KIMANIICHUNGWAH KIMANIICHUNGWAH KIMANIICHUNGWA Kimani, do you mean that the diverted KES 2b caused a KES 34b hole? What is it that you don’t understand about a fuel station outage, a bank outage, or rush hour? They all cause upheavals not due to a scarcity, but due to panic. And you’re a bookkeeper!!!”
