June 2025 Protest was More than Remembrance but Unfinished Business

The long waited Genzs Led Protest Finally Kicked the Streets of Every County in Nairobi with an aim of Remembrance to the Fallen Youth who died during the fight in the previous Finance Bill Protest 2024.

As anticipated,Thousands of Kenyans stormed the streets again For many, it was more than remembrance; it was unfinished business.

According to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, at least 60 protesters were killed during last year’s demonstrations, while another 80 were abducted by individuals believed to be security agents.

On 25 June last year, Gen Z protesters breached Parliament and set part of the building ablaze after MPs passed the controversial tax-heavy Finance Bill. The violence and chaos that followed marked one of the most traumatic political episodes in Kenya’s recent history.

This time , the capital Nairobi was on high alert. Schools closed early, roads quiet and some businesses temporarily closed out of fear of looting or clashes.

However, this time round The Motive was not to Invade Parliament but to Meet President William Ruto in State house .

The government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura on Tuesday warned there will be “no demonstrations on 25 June” and urged citizens to “protest from home”.

His remarks only added fuel to the fire as Genzs came out in Large Numbers together with Victims family of the previous Protest to Prove him Powerless .

“That’s not advice, that’s a threat,” says student activist Stanley Mwangi. ““Wednesday is a day of rage and courage. We want justice for our killed comrades.”

Despite government restrictions Protests were held in many parts of the county Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru and Eldoret.

As anticipated infiltration was still there as Teargas ,Blood Shed and Fire that created a lot of destructions and Injuries as the war escalated between the armed police officers and the Angry Youth during the protest.

More shock hit Kenyans as Communication Authority of Kenya issued a ban to stop live coverage of the protest.

Despite that Only media was a saviour to Kenyans as nothing could be a success to the government at that time.

One reason the protests have shaken the government so deeply, according to analysts, is that there is no single leader to arrest or bargain with.

The Gen Z movement is horizontal, organised on WhatsApp, TikTok and X, with no fixed headquarters, no official spokesperson.
