Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has criticized the Kenyatta family for neglecting the former freedom fighters since Kenya’s independence in 1963.
During a speech to residents of Iruri village in Mathira constituency, Nyeri County, on Friday, Gachagua accused unnamed individuals of hoarding large tracts of land without giving any to the former freedom fighters.
He suggested that they should donate at least half of the land they had taken from the Mau Mau and their descendants, as the land has remained unused while the Mau Mau and their children are buried in public cemeteries.
Gachagua appeared to be responding to comments made by former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta, who expressed regret over the neglect of the former freedom fighters during a meeting with Field Marshall Mary Muthoni at her Muthaiga home on Thursday.
Gachagua offered to help the Mau Mau and connect them with the Kenyatta family if they want his assistance.
