Pedestrians in Nairobi will have to dig deeper into their pockets once the government reveals the fees that automobiles must pay to enter the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
According to a statement issued by the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS), matatus and buses will be charged ksh 200, saloon car and taxi owners will be charged ksh 150, and motorbike owners will be charged ksh 50 to reach the newly constructed bus termini.
This is a big setback for industry stakeholders, as they will be compelled to face additional costs as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak.
When the termini begin operations, matatu owners have stated that they will raise the fare to cover the additional charges.
Passengers have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the situation, requesting the relevant authorities to reconsider the fees in order to make them more affordable to the average citizen.
