During the Madaraka Day celebrations, a man ran towards the presidential dias at Uhuru Gardens, prompting security officers to rescue President Uhuru Kenyatta.
This happened while the president was addressing the nation on the occasion of the country’s 59th anniversary of self-rule. President Uhuru Kenyatta spoke at the event, as differences between the head of state and his deputy played out. The president also chastised those he referred to as naysayers for opposing his infrastructure projects.
At the event, the president highlighted his accomplishments in infrastructure development. The DP Ruto camp had stated that they would change the Naivasha dry port, which the president had praised as one of Jubilee’s accomplishments.
The president denied his deputy the opportunity to speak. Raila Odinga, the presidential candidate of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition, was also denied the opportunity to speak, but the president indirectly campaigned for Raila Odinga after stating that Kenya would have a chance of getting a female Deputy President.
As the president was delivering his speech, an unknown man dashed towards the presidential podium, but heavy security rushed in and arrested him. The photos are as follows:
