The commissioners claimed that Chebukati announced the results without consulting them first.
In his most recent statement, Chebukati claimed that the four commissioners, led by Juliana Cherera, attempted to persuade him to dilute the numbers in order to call for a new round of Presidential elections.
Since then, a petition has been filed in the National Assembly to remove Juliana Cherera, Francis Wanderi, Justus Nyangaya, and Irene Cherono from office for gross misconduct and incompetence.
The petition was filed by attorneys John Wangai and Kevin Kiarie, who claimed that the four IEBC commissioners violated the constitution, election laws, and other enabling provisions of the laws.
According to the two attorneys, Wafula Chebukati’s announcement of the results met all constitutional and legal requirements.
