Kenyan Government Issues Emergency Hotline Numbers for Citizens in Sudan as Security Situation Worsens

On Wednesday, Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Roseline Njogu, shared emergency hotline numbers for Kenyans living in Sudan. The numbers are +249900194854 (Sudan) and +254114757002 (Kenya).

PS Njogu urged Kenyans in Sudan or those with Kenyan family and friends there to contact the ministry immediately if needed.

The Kenyan government has announced plans to evacuate about 3,000 citizens currently living in or visiting Sudan if the situation in Khartoum deteriorates into a humanitarian crisis.

The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has set up a multi-agency technical team to monitor the situation and prepare to support Kenyans in Sudan through humanitarian assistance and emergency evacuation if necessary.

As of now, no Kenyan casualties have been reported, and the ministry is advising Kenyans to stay indoors and monitor the situation. The conflict in Sudan has resulted in at least 200 deaths and the destruction of property.

The army claims to be in control of all its bases, including its Khartoum headquarters, where intense clashes have occurred. There have been ongoing clashes between the army and a paramilitary group called the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
