Raila Now Calls For Far-Reaching Reforms to IEBC

The leader of One Kenya coalition, Raila Odinga, has suggested that the opposition is considering significant reforms to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

During a town hall meeting in Murang’a, Odinga proposed that IEBC be devolved, and 47 electoral units be established, where the results will be declared final.

This is a departure from the current system where results are collected from all 290 constituencies and tallied at the national tallying centre in Bomas of Kenya.

Odinga wants the national tallying centre to only tally results declared from the 47 devolved regional IEBC tallying centres.

Odinga also mentioned plans to reintroduce the Building Bridges Initiative constitutional changes, which include the division of revenue among counties. Odinga’s proposals were praised by other leaders who accompanied him to the meeting.
