How to claim your portion of Facebook’s $725 million settlement

Facebook users who held an account between May 2007 and December 2022 can now request a portion of Meta’s $725 million settlement, which is related to the Cambridge Analytica controversy.

In December, Meta agreed to pay the settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit that accused it of allowing Cambridge Analytica and other third parties to access users’ private information while deceiving them about its privacy policies.

Users can submit the claim form, which requires only a few personal details and information about their Facebook accounts, by August 25 to participate in the settlement.

The amount of each settlement payment has not yet been determined and will be based on the length of time the user had an active Facebook account during the relevant period. After a final settlement approval hearing scheduled for September 7, payments will be distributed to eligible users.

Meta did not admit liability in the settlement, but it has made changes to its privacy policies to prevent future incidents like the Cambridge Analytica debacle.
