Jomo Kenyatta International Airport runway temporarily closed after Cargo plane malfunction

On Monday morning, the Kenya Airport Authority (KAA) declared that the runway at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) would be temporarily closed due to technical issues with a Cargo plane that was unable to take off.

All incoming and outgoing flights have been suspended until further notice, according to the KAA’s statement. Citizen Digital has confirmed that the Singapore Airlines Cargo plane experienced an engine fire, causing its tyres to deflate and preventing it from being towed off the runway.

To address the situation, airport personnel have taken tyres from other grounded aircraft. As of 12:15 pm on Monday, the JKIA runway had been partially reopened for smaller planes to take off.

Passengers have been advised by the KAA to contact their airlines for updates on their flights.

The delays have mainly affected larger aircraft, with a flight from New York experiencing a two-hour delay from its expected landing time of 10:00 am.
