Nairobi County Government Proposes Hourly Parking Fees to Reduce Congestion

The Nairobi City County government has created a policy that would require drivers in the city to pay for parking on an hourly basis.

Under this policy, if it is implemented, the initial hour of parking would cost Sh100, with subsequent hours costing Sh50 each. According to Boniface Nyamu, the Chief Officer of Mobility for Nairobi County, this move is aimed at increasing revenue for the next financial year.

The demand for parking in the CBD is higher than the available supply, so the hourly billing system is designed to generate more revenue from parking fees while also reducing congestion.

During a presentation to the Transport and Public Works committee at City Hall, Mr Nyamu shared the department’s plan to increase parking revenue.
