The wiper party had previously announced its intention to run for president, naming Kalonzo Musyoka as its candidate. However, the mission was nearly derailed when the IEBC barred Kalonzo from voting in the presidential election. The IEBC act prompted the party to question the commission, which revealed that it had met all of the requirements and did not know why it had been locked out.
In a response to the wiper party today, the IEBC commission revealed the critical error that forced Kalonzo out of the race. According to an IEBC letter, the wiper party submitted its soft copy signatures in PDF format rather than the required Excel format, resulting in their disqualification from the race.
“The commission has considered and granted your request to submit a soft copy of your list of supporters in Excel format by May 29th at 9:00am at the Bomas of Kenya, failing which your documentation will not be certified as compliant,” stated part of the IEBC letter.
