William Ruto’s trip to the United States, the United Kingdom, and Qatar will cost taxpayers more than KSh 100 million.

The cost of Deputy President William Ruto’s trip to the United States, the United Kingdom (UK), and Qatar is estimated to be KSh 107 million.

The deputy president is joined by 31 people on his foreign tour, including his wife Racheal Ruto and Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi.

Governors Josphat Nanok (Turkana), Salim Mvurya (Kwale), Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), and senators Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet) and Susan Kihika (Elgeyo Marakwet) are among the Kenya Kwanza Alliance leaders on the squad (Nakuru).

Bills from Ruto’s team

According to the Daily Nation, the team would spend KSh 9.7 million on air tickets to and from Kenya, assuming they all fly business class. Accommodation costs KSh 8.28 million (average of KSh 44,555 per person per night), while daily allowances total KSh 7.2 million. According to the 2014 Salaries and Remuneration circular on allowances for public service, a high-ranking official traveling to the United States will receive $724 (KSh 82,000) per day, while others will get $527. (KSh 60,000).

Ruto and Mudavadi meet with Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts.

On March 1, Ruto led a Kenya Kwanza Alliance delegation to Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts for negotiations. The DP pushed Ricketts to tap into the Kenyan market to meet Nebraska’s tea and coffee demands, according to Hussein Mohamed, director of communications for Ruto’s campaign secretariat.

Ruto, who is running for President of Kenya, reaffirmed his commitment and assurance to hold a peaceful election on August 9, 2022, while safeguarding Kenyans’ democratic ideals.

“The State of Nebraska is home to the USA’s most innovative agricultural and livestock sectors. This presents significant opportunities for knowledge, partnership, and technology transfer for Kenya. The state is also a potential market for Kenyan tea and coffee,” Ruto later on posted on his social media pages.

Hustler’s jet scandal

The DP was accused in May 2013 of hiring a fancy Bombardier 850 Challenger, sometimes known as the Hustler jet, for shuttle diplomacy in four African countries. Kenyans were outraged by the trip, which reportedly cost taxpayers KSh 100 million, leading investigative agencies to take action. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) stated that no public funds were lost at the deputy president’s office because the travel was approved by the president.
